UAE weather: More rain expected across the emirates this week
Take note before you set out to perfect your tan this weekend…
Although Dubai’s winter is synonymous with peak tourism and alfresco season, occasional showers can put a dampener on your sun-soaked plans. And, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) anticipates another bout of rain in the coming week.
Rain and a decrease in temperatures are predicted in parts of the country, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai, before the weekend.
The four-day forecast from December 13 to December 16 indicates that partly cloudy to cloudy conditions on Thursday and Friday could result in light rainfall.
It’s most likely to affect coastal and northern areas, with moderate to fresh Northwesterly winds causing blowing dust and sand. In Dubai, temperatures will reach highs of 29ºC and lows of 17ºC.
By Saturday, the forecast is looking a lot drier, with fair to partly cloudy conditions.
This morning, the NCM also issued a fog alert in Abu Dhabi, with speed limits on sections of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road and Bida Al Mutawa Road being temporarily reduced to 80kmph. The hazy weather is predicted to stay until the end of the week.

UAE residents can prepare for another kind of shower this week too… Shooting stars will light up the skies in the UAE this week with the annual Geminids meteor shower. Known as one of the best and most reliable annual showers, it will peak on Thursday, December 14 from 6pm to 1am.
According to Mleiha Archaeological Centre, the Geminids meteor shower is one of the most stunning astronomical events of the year and has the potential to dazzle observers with up to 120 meteors per hour. This year, due to the absence of the moon, it’s set to be even more spectacular.
