Where to watch the celebratory fireworks…now Dubai won Expo 2020
Unless you have been living in a sand castle these past few weeks, then you’ll be aware that Expo 2020 is coming to Dubai. At around 8.30pm (GST), Dubai was announced ahead of Turkey, Brazil and Russia to the right to host the largest mix of trade exhibitions anywhere on the planet.
And in true Dubai style, there is talk of a firework display to even rival the spectacular new year celebrations that have illuminated the skies around Burj Khalifa and other iconic landmarks.
So, with our fingers and toes crossed, What’s On has compiled a list of the best rooftop bars for you to get the best vantage point. Here’s hoping…
NEOS
The Dubai Fountains are pretty impressive from the ground level, but hoist yourself up 63 floors and they become mind-blowing. The view of the Burj Khalifa isn’t half bad either. You’ll have to take two lifts to reach it, but once you do, the twinkling city views and art deco-inspired interiors will ensure you stay for more than just the one.

PEOPLE BY CRYSTAL
Drink in the 360-degree view at this glitzy bar and club on the 17th floor of Raffle’s in Wafi City – which, for those who are new to town, is Dubai’s take on ancient Egypt. Think imposing pyramids, gold pillars and giant pharaoh statues, complete with a host of five-star restaurants, bars and a sprawling mall. It’s Disneyland for adults and well worth a trip.

ECLIPSE
The décor might be a tad ’80s for our taste, but the views are some of the best the city has to offer. Overlooking Dubai’s creek and beyond, this upmarket spot, set on the 26th floor, offers gourmet bar snacks and perfectly mixed cocktails. If you’re feeling flush, opt for a glass of something sparkly.

Delicious gazpacho, Manchego cheese bites and yellowfin tuna cones are among the tapas treats at Melia Dubai’s new rooftop bar. The mojitos and sangria go down nicely too. Sink into a poolside beanbag and take in the great city view.
