It was acceptable in the 90s... and Societe make it so now
Societe at the Marina Byblos Hotel is continuing its brilliant commitment to bringing the 90s back to future, with Shola Ama becoming the latest star of the past to perform at the new nightspot.
The ‘You Might Need Somebody’ singer will entertain the crowds at the venue on Sunday January 26, joining Haddoway and 2Unlimited on the hall of fame at Societe.
The English RnB artist will perform other classics from her heydey, including ‘You’re The One I Love’ and ‘Taboo’, both of which were top 10 hits. ‘You Might Need Somebody’, a cover of the Turley Richards original, reached No 4 in her homeland while she was still 17, and went stayed in the top 40 for a further two months.
Her success as a teenager saw her pick up two MOBO awards, one Brit and more than a million album sales, while latterly she collaborated and toured with the likes of Fugees, Jamiroquai, Glamma Kid, Angie Stone and the Harlem Gospel Choir.
Doors open at 10pm and tickets are Dhs100.
Hot on Shola’s heels will be Northern Irish pop and dance band D:Ream, who come to the stage on Sunday February 2. Famous for their 1993 smash ‘Things Can Only Get Better’, they also achieved commercial success with ‘Ur The Best Thing’ in the summer of 1992.
