Dubai from the sky
We love UAE

What’s the only sport that doesn’t require team-mates, a pitch, a ball, a referee, a net, a stopwatch, or any type of stick, bat or racquet? Running. All you need to be a runner is your body, and a bit of determination.

As the weather has begun to cool lately, we’ve seen more and more runners on the streets of Dubai, and we decided it was time to devote an issue to this most simple and beautiful form of exercise. We’ve picked the brains of highly qualified experts in Dubai and asked them everything about running: how to warm up, how to cool down, what to wear, what to eat, which running clubs to join, which outdoor tracks to try, how to avoid injury – even what to listen to (or are you one of those people who thinks listening to music when running is a crime?). Take a look, get inspired, and start running – it will change your life.

Away from the treadmill/pavement/running track we bring you exciting news of the inaugural What’s On Party In The Park, featuring a headline performance from British pop star Lily Allen. As well as top notch music, this festival in Dubai Media City on November 14 will be packed with food, drink, entertainment and – most importantly – thousands of cool people like you looking for a good time.

Elsewhere in What’s On this month is a preview of the first Sandance of the season on October 10. Empire Of The Sun, De La Soul, Clean Bandit, Rudimental and Axwell/Ingrosso are the acts who’ll be making Dubai ear drums vibrate at Nasimi Beach. In other music news, we have an interview with Gary Barlow who’s bringing his songbook of hits to Dubai on October 17.

With the mercury dropping we thought it was the perfect time to bring you a round-up of the best outdoor bars in Dubai, as well as a few BBQ spots too. We have news on Oktoberfest, Halloween parties, plus cracking theatre such as Love, Loss And What I Wore, Stick Man, and Beauty And The Beast.

There is extensive coverage of culture, clubbing, film, health, well-being, and sport including a sneak preview of Dubai’s first extreme 10k obstacle course, the Desert Warrior Challenge on October 17, which team What’s On are going to tackle – gulp. Hope to see you there. Let’s get running, Dubai.
