Ed Sheeran is coming to Dubai, just as What’s On told you last month.
The British singer-songwriter will take to the stage at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on March 5, his first visit to the region. Tickets for the show are expected to sell fast when they are made available on Thursday November 20.
The one-off show comes wedged between the European and Australian legs of the 23-year-old’s world tour, which is currently in the UK and Ireland before moving on to Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands and Belgium before the year is out.
The summer was spent in the USA, during which time he was described by Billboard.com as having “the crowd wrapped around his finger, and the booming sound to pack an [20,000-capacity Staples Centre in Los Angeles] arena”.
The review added that Sheeran “had a lot of tricks up his sleeve to add depth to his stripped-down songs, like layering his own vocal harmonies, adding percussion by banging on his guitar, and (the easiest part) getting the crowd to sing along. But his best trick of all was his powerful voice.”
In October, Sheeran’s second album, ‘X’ – the follow up to 2011’s ‘+‘ – overtook Coldplay’s Ghost Stories as the biggest seller of 2014, with more than 634,000 sold since June.
And only last week, the star released the music video for ‘Thinking Out Loud’, garnering over 3 million views in its first 24 hours.
Sheeran’s performance at Media City Amphitheatre comes within a month of both RedFest DXB and the return to it’s original venue of the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival. The likes of John Legend, The Script, James Blunt, Iggy Azalea and Kiesza will perform across the events, while news on the Blended line-up is expected in the coming months.
Tickets will be priced from Dhs350 (Regular) to Dhs1,200 (VIP) when they go on sale on Thursday. Die-hard fans can register at edsheerandubai.com to get the opportunity to purchase up to four tickets each a day earlier.
