A 650 metre-long cake will go on sale at Dubai’s Mall Of The Emirates on December 5 as part of a charity drive to raise money for Dubai Centre for Special Needs.
It’s the ninth consecutive year the great bake sale has taken place at the mall, with last year’s 600-m behemoth raising Dhs87,990.
The cake itself is a German stollen, a festive variety of the traditional fruitcake. It has taken a team of 30 chefs five weeks to prepare, and will require the help of 50 volunteers to slice and sell on the day. Individual portions can be bought for Dhs5, and whole loaves come in at Dhs100.
“This year’s Stollen charity event is the most ambitious we’ve hosted in partnership with the Kempinski Hotel and with 650m of delicious festive cake ready to be sold, we are optimistic that we will raise record numbers for the Dubai Centre for Special Needs,” said the team from Mall Of The Emirates.
As well as the cake, the atrium at the Al Barsha shopping centre will be transformed into a festive destination featuring Santa Claus and his helpers, as well carol singers.
“The Kempinski Stollen charity cake sale is a highlight on our annual calendar,” added Dubai Centre for Special Needs. “We are always so grateful to the team at the Kempinski and Mall of the Emirates for their hard work and determination to always make the cake bigger and better each year. The money they raise every year really does help us go further and continue to support and nurture the development of our students, therefore, lighting their path towards a brighter future.”
It’s not the only exciting foodie news this week, after the Dubai Food Festival confirmed its return in 2015. All the favourite activations of last year, as well as a selection of new events, will spread out across the emirate between February 6 and 28. As with last year, leading chefs from around the world will jet in to appear as guest speakers and host numerous special dinners; stellar names like Sanjeev Kapoor, Jason Atherton and Silvena Rowe have already been confirmed.
