Art and culture lovers, get ready; creative hub Alserkal Avenue has a brand new event coming up you won’t want to miss.
The Al Quoz art hub is hosting its first ever Urban Market on Saturday December 13, and as well as the usual arts and crafts that you’d expect, there’ll also be workshops, kids activities, live music, DJs, fashion and food.
The free event will run from 11am to 8pm, and there’s going to be a huge range of things to see of things to see and do. Local creative collective Freshly Ground Sounds will be at the event, bringing their usual mix of chilled vibes and live music from 12.30pm to 3pm. Vitamins and Vinyl are set to have a pop up stand selling vintage vinyl records as well as organic juice. And around noon Dubai Drums will be bringing their beats by walking through the streets of the arts complex. There’ll also be a tour of Alserkal Avenue itself, as well as talks by various creative types including renowned street artist eL Seed.
Throughout the day, you’ll be able to browse stalls from TheFashset, Good Vibes food market, RemadeDXB and Corcel’s bicycles, among others. Plus, if you feel inspired to buy something for your own walls, Drawdeck & Capsule Arts will be selling affordable art too.
The Urban Market follows the success of Galleries Night, which launched the new season in September by throwing open the doors of Alserkal Avenue’s creative spaces.
Alserkal Avenue as we know it emerged in 2007 and now thrives with 25 art spaces, with housing for almost 40 more creative organisations at a new development which will broaden the current focus on contemporary art to design, architecture, fashion and media. The new area will continue to nurture the home-grown art scene with artists’ studios and residency programmes. Outdoor event facilities will host everything from film screenings to concerts and community events, and independent cafés will allow you to make a day of it.
