6 things to do in Mina Zayed Port, Abu Dhabi
There’s more to the waterside port of Mina Zayed than the markets, including restaurants and useful shops…
While the sign outside says Dibaj Furniture, this home goods shop is an outlet of Heritage Touch. The Oriental store offers handmade, crafted woodworks (think coffee tables and bed sets) as well as textiles, accessories and metal works.
Dibaj Furniture, Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, Sat to Thur 10am to 9pm, Fri 3pm to 9pm. Tel: (02) 6732749. Taxi: Mina Port, behind Toys R Us.
2. Casttello
You’ll have to drive to the tip of the port to find this large seafood and shisha restaurant. Surrounded by greenery and located next to the water, the views alone (we counted three massive ships within walking distance) make it worth a visit. The menu features Arabic mezze, seafood, pasta and pizza.
Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, Sat to Wed 10.30am to 12.30am, Thur and Fri 10.30am to 1.30am. Tel: (02) 6733344. Taxi: Mina Port, near ACC Camp.
3. Toys R Us
One of the port’s best-known landmarks, this shop offers a massive selection of toys and games for kids of all ages, from toddlers (Play-Doh and more) to teens (see the electronic zone, full of the latest consoles). There are also baby strollers for new parents, clothing, bikes and car-shaped beds on offer.
Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, daily 10am to 11pm. Tel: (02) 6732332. Taxi: Mina Port, on 20th Street.
4. Ace Hardware
This American hardware shop is a good option for both crafters and builders who are looking to avoid the drive to the Yas Island branch. While not as big, this one-stop-shop still has an impressive range of camping equipment, tools, paints, garden furniture and hardware.
Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, daily 10am to 10pm. Tel: (02) 6731665. Taxi: Mina Port, on 20th Street next to Toys R Us.
5. Navona Restaurant and Coffee Shop
While the décor at this shisha spot is decidedly shabby, especially the astroturf outdoor seating area flanked by golden lions, that hasn’t stopped patrons from frequenting the restaurant. Food portions are big and there are a few surprises on the menu too, including traditional Moroccan dishes.
Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, daily 9am to 3am. Tel: (02) 6440889. Taxi: Mina Port, behind the Fish Market
This blink-or-you’ll-miss it café in the New Iranian Market is so tiny it doesn’t even have a working phone number. But don’t be discouraged – the bright yellow outlet does have an active Instagram account with a Google map for intrepid customers who’d like to visit. Food options are pretty sparse, asides from the odd burger or hot dog, there are mostly coffees and teas (served with a moustache wearing straw) on the menu. Gamers can use the communal PlayStation, but get there early to guarantee a turn behind the remote controllers.
Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, daily 4pm to 11pm. Taxi: Mina Port, behind the New Iranian Market.
