Gig alert: U2 coming to Abu Dhabi?
Are the Irish rock legends getting set to perform in the capital? Well, according to Flash Entertainment’s chief executive John Lickrish, maybe.
“Bono has been to Abu Dhabi and I know the people he has met with,” Lickrish told The National. “They are looking to play this region because they haven’t done so before. It would be the worst-kept secret in the world, if it does happen.”
The band is currently working on a new album to follow-up 2014’s Songs of Innocence, most notable perhaps for the controversy it caused when it was released for free as a compulsory download on iTunes. Songs of Experience is expected to arrive sometime later this year and many songs are already said to have been recorded. The Edge has likened the recording process for the new material to be similar to that of their 1993 Grammy-Award-wining album Zooropa.
Bono goes on to explain, “on this one we were going after a broken cassette recorder type of sound. This has got a really crunchy beat … You have to hear Edge’s guitar work on this … Just wait until you hear the drum break on this one.”
One thing is for certain, if they do end up doing a gig in Abu Dhabi it’ll be a beautiful day.
