The Dubai Rugby Sevens are back and bigger than before
It’s that time of the year again, when rugby and fancy dress collide in one of our favourite sporting events.
The Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens is expected to attract more than 100,000 fans between 1 and 3 December, where around 4,000 players will take part in the tournament.
The three-day annual festival is now in its 47th year, however rugby sevens will feature as an Olympic sport for the first time in Rio de Janeiro this August.
That means you’ll get to see real Olympians competing this year – maybe even some gold medal-winning ones, depending on how things go in Rio.

Tickets for the event, which will be held at The Sevens Stadium, are on sale from 9am today at dubairugby7s.com.
Admission on Thursday 1 is free, whereas tickets cost Dhs300 for Friday 2 and Saturday 3 when purchased in advance. If bought on the day, tickets are Dhs400. Passes for the entire event are Dhs500, or Dhs600 on the day, and kids under 12 go free.
The invitation tournament will see more than 280 teams take part across eight pitches, making it the largest Dubai Rughy Sevens to date.
Last year saw the inaugural netball tournament also take place – and it was so successful it will return this year.
What’s more, the netball segment is actually expanding to include three divisions: Gulf Women, Open Women and Open Youth.
There’ll be entertainment options for families available over the three days, along with performances from bands and music artists each night after the action on the pitch has wrapped up.
Tickets can also be bought at Emirates Group Headquarters, dnata Travel Stores, Go Sport and Park n Shop, and Emirates Skywards Members can put their air miles towards tickets at emirates.com.
