Good news: Al Maktoum Bridge is now Salik free on Fridays
This also means you’ll be able to take longer cruises along the creek on weekends.
The RTA has just announced that Dubai’s motorists will now be able to travel across Al Maktoum Bridge without paying for Salik on Fridays.
This is to offset the closing down of the Floating Bridge each week between 10pm on Thursdays until 6am Saturday morning, in a move designed to encourage easier passage for yachts, dhows and other water vessels to reach the Dubai Water Canal on weekends.
Maitha Bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, noted that, “The decision has been taken following comprehensive traffic studies, which revealed that Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge and Al Shindagha Tunnel together are capable of accommodating traffic movements in the area on Fridays, which is significantly less compared to weekdays.”
Salik will continue to be in effect on Al Garhoud Bridge throughout the weekend, however motorists needing to reach the other side of the creek looking to avoid the toll can travel via Al Maktoum Bridge and the Shindagha Tunnel.
