One good turn: RTA to hand out free wheelchairs to those in need
The new monthly initiative is in line with the 2017 ‘Year of Giving’…
In a heartwarming initiative, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it has adopted a new policy to help support Dubai’s residents with physical disabilities by donating a number of wheelchairs each month to those in need.
It kicked things off earlier this month by presenting 10 people of determination each with brand new wheelchairs at the RTA’s head office in Garhoud.

The gesture was made in conjunction with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and is only one of many ways that the government has been working to make Dubai more accessible for people with disabilities. Earlier this year we saw the introduction of revamped signs at many of Dubai’s beaches clearly marking access for people of determination, while the RTA has strived to configure all of its public transport modes (that’s metro, bus, taxi and boat) so that they can be easily accessed by all.
You can find out more about the new policy, which is in line with HH Sheikh Mohammed’s 2017 ‘Year of Giving’ initiative, by visiting the RTA website.
