A love match: how the Mubadala World Tennis Championship and Katy Perry can save you cash this New Year's Eve

What do Rafael Nadal, one of the biggest names in tennis, and pop legend Katy Perry have in common? At first glance, not a lot, but both of them can help save you money, and set you up for the best New Year’s Eve weekend you’ll ever have in the UAE capital.
If you buy a ticket to the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, taking place at Zayed Sports City December 28 to 30, you’ll get a 20 per cent discount on a ticket to see the Roar singer at the du Arena on New Year’s Eve. It means you can spend the days leading up to 2018 watching some of the biggest names in tennis go head-to-head, before dancing in the New Year on Yas to one of the biggest-selling recording artists of all time, on December 31.
But the chance to save a few dirhams isn’t the only reason to pop down to the 10th edition of this ever-popular tennis tournament. As well as Spain’s Nadal, who has won the trophy in Abu Dhabi four times (including a victory over David Goffin last time out, back in December 2016), World No 14 Kevin Anderson, World No 12 Novak Djokovic, World No 39 Andrey Rublev, World No 10 Pablo Carreno Busta and World No 5 Dominic Thiem are all confirmed to play in the capital.
“I am extremely excited to play in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship again,” says Nadal. “This tournament is very important to me as it is not only the tenth edition and my ninth appearance, but I will also be defending my title. I am very proud to be part of this great event and I know it will be a really enjoyable and challenging tournament as always.”
Around 5,000 fans are expected to head to the tennis stadium at Zayed Sports City to see the players in action, but there’s also tons happening off of the pitch. The championship village is the place to head between matches. The village places an emphasis on kids on the first day of the tournament, with training sessions available and games for children to play (there will be prizes up for grabs). There’s also coaching clinics on the other days, you can watch the pros train, get their autographs (two players will be at the village on each day, so if you want all their autographs, you’ll need to pop down for all three days) and take part in Q&A sessions. The village will be open from noon on December 28 and throughout the tournament. Food and drinks stalls will also be operating inside.
Tickets for adults start at just Dhs100, so what are you waiting for? Click here to get yours and to get a discount on tickets to Katy’s gig on New Year’s Eve.
