Yes, summer is coming…

There’s no turning back now. The UAE is officially in summer’s steamy clutches, with the mercury climbing to 40 degrees Celsius over the weekend.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the highest temperature recorded on Saturday was 40.1C at the Madinat Zayed station in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

What about Dubai? Well, the city sizzled at 37C on Saturday – so you’ve probably noticed things heating up. While it’s cooled down to 30C today, the NCM forecasts that coastal areas could experience highs between 33C and 39C this week, while internal areas could reach 42C.

April is a known “transitional period” that sees “rapid changes in air pressure distributions” and therefore “rapid changes in weather”, according to the NCM.

Data gathered at the Dubai International Airport weather station from 2003 to 2016 shows the average temperature rises from 23C to 27C from March to April. The maximum temperature for April recorded in Dubai over the 13 year bracket was 43.5C.

The hottest month in Dubai is August, with maximum temperatures rising to 48C… so unfortunately, we’re not even close to the worst of it.
