Car registration renewal in Dubai set to go online-only from next week
The changes come into effect on Sunday, July 22…
The RTA has announced that effective Sunday, July 22, eight of its key services will now only be able to be completed via the department’s online portal.
Chief among them will be the renewal of vehicle registration for all privately owned vehicles that require an annual technical testing – something that should cover the majority of motorists in Dubai.
You’ll likely still have to visit an RTA affiliated service centre to get the annual testing done (especially if your car is over a certain age) but putting the registration portion online means considerably cutting down the time spent waiting around at a Tasjeel or Al Shamil.

“The step is part of RTA’s strategy for gradual diversion of all services to smart and e-channels, which is in line with the Government’s directives to reduce the number of visitors to service centres, and the Smart City initiative.” notes an official statement from the RTA released on Sunday.
The other seven service that will also move online include: printing of a detailed list of registered vehicles, return from tour certificate, first owner registration certificate, vehicle(s) ownership certificate, re-insurance certificate, ownership certificate in replacement of lost/damaged one, and clearance certificate.
Motorists will be able to complete any of these services from next Sunday via the RTA portal, Dubai Drive app, Smart Teller or by calling the RTA call centre on 800 9090.
