Six must-try indoor activities in Dubai this summer
Culinary classes, theatre, fitness and theme parks…
With summer in full swing, we’re trading in pool days for indoor activities this summer. But whether you’re looking to learn a new skill, see a stunning show, or get fit, there’s plenty of fun things happening across the city.
Here are six must-try indoor activities to keep you busy this summer.
See the newly enhanced La Perle
The permanent water-based theatre show La Perle is a 90-minute spectacular created by Franco Dragone. After a short summer break, the stunning show is back with a whole host of enhanced experience, and even more exceptional wow-moments. The plot is still as abstract as before, leaving you to interpret each element as you decide, but this time around there’s even more stunts. The show begins slightly earlier too, and don’t be surprised to see the show’s stars interacting with members of the audience.
La Perle by Dragone, Al Habtoor City, Tuesday to Friday 7pm and 9.30pm and Saturday 4pm and 7pm. Tel: (04) 437 0123. More info on website
Work up a sweat with Kangoo jumps
What is Kangoo jumps you ask? Well, modeled on kangaroo movements, kangoo jumps are done on specialist shoes which generate a trampoline-like feeling of weightlessness. As well as burning up to 1000 calories per hour, the classes reduce joint stress, increase endurance and strength and improve posture and coordination. Don’t expect to be a pro from the start, this is one that takes time to get the hang of, and you’ll spend a good portion of the class in fits of laughter.
Kangoo Club Dubai, Iconic Fitness, Dream Tower, Dubai Marina, 8.30pm, Sunday and Tuesday, from Dhs150. Tel: (050) 644 6562. More info on Facebook
Put your skills to the test at TEPfactor
There’s a fun way to test your physical strength and mental prowess – TEPfactor is a brand new adventure centre in JBR, and it features 21 challenges for you and a group of mates to take on. You’ll be expected to solve puzzles and work your way through obstacle courses – think slippery spinning poles, rotating inflatables and swinging balls – all before the clock runs out. Trust us, it’s harder than it looks…
TEPfactor, Bahar, The Walk, JBR, Sun to Wed 10am to midnight, Thurs to Sat 10am to 1am, Dhs80 per person per hour weekdays, Dhs100 per person per hour weekends. Tel: (04) 398 8438. More info on website.
Perfect your culinary skills with a cookery class
Belgian chef Romain Van Durmen is the heavily-accented man at the helm of Fairmont The Palm’s Chef’s Palette facility, and he makes for a seriously engaging host. While some of his classes are not for the faint-hearted – we had to kill our own lobsters – the three-course menu for his masterclasses can be fully tailored. Classes, which can be booked in advance for groups of up to 12, make for a fun night with friends, while there are regular children’s sessions on offer, too.
Fairmont The Palm, Palm Jumeirah, daily, from Dhs195. Tel: (04) 457 3457. More info on website.

Over summer, it takes shape at various locations, selling hand made art fashion and craft pieces from 150 contemporary and highly original makers and designers. Entrance to the events is free, and all the locations offer free parking. The next one is Friday July 6 at Mercato Shopping Mall on Jumeirah Beach Road.
