It’s sooner than you think…

We know it’s only just been the Eid Al Adha long weekend, but we’ve got some good news for you if you’re already wondering when the next public holiday is in Dubai.

Islamic New Year (also known as Hijri) in 2018 will mark the year 1439, and is likely to fall on Tuesday, September 11. Typically, we get one day off for this holiday.

So although it won’t be a long weekend, it’s likely we’ll have a four-day week in just two weeks’ time.

As with all public holidays though, the exact date is subject to the moon sighting – so we won’t know for definite until nearer the time.

After that, there’s still a further three public holidays to come before the end of the year.

Milad Un Nabi marks Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday and usually means a day off. This year, it falls on Tuesday November 20, although a day off is dependent on the sighting of the moon.

November 30 marks Commemoration Day in the UAE. Formerly referred to as Martyrs’ Day, this holiday honours the Emiratis who have died while protecting their country. It falls on a Friday this year, which means it may be combined with National Day.

The last holiday of the year is National Day, which falls on Sunday December 2, so we’re likely to have at least one day off. 2018 will mark the UAE’s 47th birthday, celebrating the unification of the seven emirates in 1971.
