HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has approved the logo to mark the ‘Year of Tolerance’.
The logo has been inspired by the UAE’s national tree, the Ghaf, and will be used by government, private and media organisations.
In a tweet, Sheikh Mohammed said, “Tolerance is a universal value, and the Ghaf is our authentic national tree, a source of life and symbol of stability in the middle of the desert”.

The Ghaf tree was chosen as the symbol due to its great significance as being one of the most authentic trees in the country, according to the Supreme National Committee. The tree also symbolises stability and peace throughout the desert, and also has the ability to adapt to its surroundings.
‘The Ghaf represents a great cultural value in the UAE and is associated with the identity and heritage of the country,’ read a statement from the Supreme National Committee of the ‘Year of Tolerance’.
The logo will be used in all campaigns, initiatives and programmes launched in 2019 to celebrate and mark the Year of Tolerance.
The aim of the Year of Tolerance is to educate youth on the values of tolerance, make the UAE the global capital of tolerance through new initiatives and implement cultural programmes to build a more tolerable community.
