Runners will have a designated section of the 14-lane highway on Friday November 8…

Still not quite got your running shoes on for the Dubai Fitness Challenge yet? Well how about doing it for a Dubai first?

Sheikh Zayed Road, the city’s biggest and busiest commuter highway, will become a running track on Friday November 8, for the first time ever with Dubai residents invited to come and take part in a free 5km or 10km.

Planning on travelling by car that day? Don’t panic, there’s only a section of the road designated for runners so normal commuting can still go ahead.

Both runs will start and finish at the Dubai World Trade Centre at 6am. People of any age, fitness or ability are invited to join the 5km fun run, which you can do at your own pace, with space for strollers and wheelchairs. You could even get a group together of friends, school classes or work colleagues for a fresh Friday morning.

The 10km is for those who take running a little more seriously, with some awesome sights of Downtown Dubai’s most iconic buildings to take in on your way.

Make sure you’re up early as check in is from 6am. The 5km is open to all ages, although anyone over the age of 8 will need to register their attendance and the 10km is open to anyone aged 18 and over, who will also need to register on Platinumlist.net.

The Dubai Fitness Challenge launched on Friday October 18, is a health and exercise initiative that encourages Dubai’s residents to do 30 minutes of exercise a day for 30 days.

Go on, challenge yourself…
