Abu Dhabi: Two new eco-friendly leisure mega projects open at Al Mughirah
Facilities include a splash park, skate park, cycling track, laser tag and paintball…
Modon properties — the team behind the transformation of Hudayriyat Island, Jubail Mangrove Park, and Mina Zayed — have just opened a pair of connected environmentally focused leisure destinations in the Al Dhafra area of Abu Dhabi.
Now open to the public, the inauguration of Mugheirah Bay and Mamsha Al Mugheirah was overseen by the region representative, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed.
You’ll find the green and serene Al Mugheirah projects around 150km west of Abu Dhabi’s city centre and, rather conveniently, it’s just next door to the deluxe new Bab Al Nojoum glamping retreat. Complete with AirStream camping opportunities for a steampunk flavoured staycation.
Bay watch
The Mugheirah Bay portion of the development covers a hopping 12 hectres of space and brings to the picnic table: 15 restaurants and eateries, a “multipurpose gaming and retail centre”, and an events lawn.
But it’s the recreational facilities that represent perhaps the biggest glow-up, with a splash park; skate park; outdoor gym; cycling track; courts for basketball, football and volleyball; with centres for laser tag and paintball too.
Into the green
Mamsha Al Mugheirah is the ‘into nature’ element of the project. It includes a breathtaking two kilometre boardwalk through the mangroves, connecting Bab Al Nojoum, Al Mugheirah Resort and Mugheirah Bay. The stunning sea view expanse, complete observation towers and educational centres, offers privileged access to this mesmerising landscape, and opportunities to spot some of the local inhabitants such as black heron and the mysterious, majestic dugong.
