What is Old New Year’s Eve?

The Old New Year, or the Orthodox New Year, is an informal traditional holiday, celebrated as the start of the New Year, back in a time when Russia used the Julian calendar. Nowadays, the Old New Year’s Eve falls on January 13 in the Gregorian calendar, and is still widely celebrated across eastern Europe.
