Notice that your phone network name changed to ‘UAE Reads’ this morning? If you’re wondering why, in short, it’s to celebrate the Month of Reading.

The Month of Reading is celebrated every March in the UAE. It was first celebrated back in 2016 and after its success, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai declared that every March would be an annual month of reading.

The month is marked by a rich and diverse calendar of engaging activities that motivate the community to read. The main aim would be to transform reading into a daily habit for everyone which will help build a future generation capable of driving the perpetual growth journey of the UAE.

A diverse agenda awaits…

The Ministry of Culture has unveiled the lineup of events for National Reading Month 2024 in a move to cultivate a passion for reading among all community members. The initiative’s goal is ‘to create an enriching environment and conducive infrastructure to foster a culture of knowledge.’

A series of events and cultural activities will take place at different emirates across the UAE at several cultural spaces and institutions. From workshops in Fujairah to family reading competitions, lectures, library visits, and more, there are plenty of ways you can kickstart the habit. Read more here.

Over in Dubai…

For our readers in Dubai, the biggest book sale in the world, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale has returned this March with amazing deals that will surely have you adding an extra bookshelf to your home.  The book sale runs from Friday, March 1 to 10, opening each day from 10am until midnight at Sound Stage in Dubai Studio City.

The sale features a whopping two million books – so expect books spanning plenty of genres and languages from English to Arabic, French and more. There will be plenty for children and adults alike. Read more here.
