Le Pain Quotidien is the home of wholesome, nourishing and organic food

We all know that fresh, wholesome food is good for the mind and body. Rustic bakery and restaurant Le Pain Quotidien, or ‘LPQ’ as it is affectionately known, is a place to find just that, in a cosy and welcoming environment for breakfast with friends, or to tuck yourself away with a book and a coffee bowl of your favorite organic hot coffee.
Le Pain Quotidien is best loved for its organic breads, breakfast and brunch dishes, signature tartines, pastries and organic coffee and teas. It originated thirty years ago back in Belgium, where its founder Alain Coumont’s passion for baking began when he was a child, watching his aunt make bread from scratch.
After Alain graduated from culinary school in Belgium, he opened his own café in 1990, that served bread and sandwiches. Unhappy with the quality of bread that he could find locally, he began baking his own bread at the back of the restaurant. The café was an instant success and thus Le Pain Quotidien was born on Rue Antoine Dansaert in Brussels.
Within two months of opening the café, a customer proposed a franchise. She wanted to purchase bread from Alain for her own restaurants. In just three years, he had 16 franchise shops across Belgium. Alain believes that community is what nurtures, inspires and feeds the soul, and so, with the purchase of a long table at a local flea market, his customers could sit and ‘break bread’ together, which has become a staple of LPQ.
