Dubai’s much talked-about and wildly popular restaurant makes its way to Abu Dhabi…

The Spot

3fils abu dhabi

Set along the serene marina in Al Bateen, the new 3Fils outpost at The Abu Dhabi EDITION hotel marks a bold new chapter for the much-lauded Dubai original. From humble beginnings in a tucked-away fishing harbour, 3Fils has transformed into a regional powerhouse, earning the title of #1 Restaurant in the inaugural MENA 50 Best list in 2022. That accolade elevated its reputation across the region. Now, with this dramatic expansion into the capital, the brand enters a new era. This is no longer the quaint, hole-in-the-wall. Instead, the three-story standalone venue adjacent to one of Abu Dhabi’s most luxurious hotels is all marble accents, statement chandeliers, and a sweeping curved staircase. It’s elegant, polished, and unmistakably upscale. The question is, can it retain the same soul and magic that made the original such a standout?

The Vibe

Effortlessly cool and distinctly refined, 3Fils Abu Dhabi channels the original’s DNA, flavour-driven, quality-led dining, while presenting a more mature, elevated setting. This is 3Fils all grown up. The vibe is still buzzy, but now leans more towards the polished atmosphere of venues like Zuma. It’s a shift from the gritty charm of the Dubai outpost.

The Food and Drinks

At the helm is Chef Jovani, who steers the kitchen with confident restraint. The menu stays true to 3Fils’ flavour-first philosophy, blending Japanese foundations with broader Asian influences. A smart mix of signature favourites, Abu Dhabi exclusives, and new specials make this menu feel fresh and exciting. There’s a strong showing of individual “finger food” items, many flame-torched to order in the open-air kitchen, adding theatre to the experience. While staples like the cult-favourite Indomie noodles appear, it’s the capital-first dishes like the indulgent A5 Wagyu Claypot that really impress. It’s worth noting that 3Fils remains unlicensed, even in its hotel setting, a move that feels like a missed opportunity. Still, the beverage offering, while minimal, is thoughtfully curated.

The Service

Service at 3Fils Abu Dhabi is smooth and unobtrusive, with a team that clearly understands and respects the brand’s legacy. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to guide diners through both the Dubai favourites and Abu Dhabi exclusives. One downside is the QR code-only menu, a less-than-ideal format for a menu with multiple sections and shareable items. Still, the pacing is relaxed, with dishes arriving as they’re ready, encouraging a more fluid, shared dining style.

What to Order

  • Gyu Grab (Dhs96)
  • A5 Wagyu Claypot (Dhs187)
  • Hamachi Nori Tempura (Dhs53)
  • Tuna Carpaccio & Uni (Dhs218)

What’s On the Bill

Dining at 3Fils comes at a premium. A meal for two, even without alcohol, typically starts around Dhs650 and climbs from there.

The Final Say

What’s On Verdict: A landmark moment for both the brand and the capital. 3Fils has arrived in style and is unapologetically elevated. Arguably the most exciting opening of the year so far.
