FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Vast bay windows stretch the entire far wall, a view dominated in the middle by Burj Khalifa, and punctuated occasionally by the highest shoots from the Dubai Fountains. It’s a splendid location.

VIBE
From the large front-and-centre group tables to the quiet romantic nooks, it is all bathed in different shades from the same light that erupts from the large open-plan kitchen wedged into one corner. Such is its unconventional shape, that you can get whatever atmosphere you want, depending on occasion.

WHAT TO ORDER
The starters are varied and, in places, extravagant. The slow braised veal tongue was curious on the palate but rich in flavour. The restaurant claims to have the only authentically 100 per cent Japanese wagyu beef, though you a pay a premium for the privilege. Of the side dishes, the Brussels sprouts – yep, those traditionally ignored part of a Christmas dinner – are tremendous, while a bone marrow accompaniment should be tried.

LOOK OUT FOR
Steaks come with a side order of education as staff present a selection beforehand and explain the difference in colouration and marbling in sirloin, ribeye and fillet.

IDEAL FOR
Such is the shape of the restaurant, groups and couples fit fine alongside but hidden from each other. The bar encourages socialising, but there is plenty of privacy to be found for special occasions.

INSIDER INFO
A terrace that offers unobstructed views of Burj Khalifa and Souk Al Bahar will offer a full dining service when it opens in the cooler months.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Very fine dining without the stuffiness.
