Has Hype‘s bid to raise awareness for the UAE’s surfing community sparked an interest in the sport? Or what if you have some experience catching waves, perhaps you’d like to venture a little bit further? Surf Bus Surfaris, run by Dubai’s Surf Shop Arabia, offer surfers of all ability the chance to get out there with like-minded people. It’s a holiday in an exciting destination where we hunt great waves and enjoy the local surf culture. They’re all about surfing, relaxing and hanging out friends who enjoy the ocean.

Here are a few of the adventures on offer.

Destination: Sharjah and Ajman
Travel time from Dubai: 30 minutes.
Length of trip: Half day.
Experience required: Suitable for beginners to advanced surfers.
Cost: Dhs275.
Includes: One surfboard rental, transport, surf guiding and food and beverages.
What kind of waves will I catch there? Mellow waves that are great for all levels of surfers and stand-up paddleboarders. Ideal when wind is offshore as the waves are clean. Beach breaks make this perfect for beginners.
Next trip: No set date yet but likely October, as soon as the new season kicks in and some waves hit the UAE coastline.

Destination: Weligama, south coast of Sri Lanka
Travel time from Dubai: Four-hour flight.
Length of trip: Five-, seven- and nine-day packages available.
Experience required: Suitable for beginners to advanced surfers.
Cost: From Dhs2,650 excluding flights. Family packages available too.
Includes: Airport transfers, accommodation, breakfast, one surf lesson and surf guiding along the south coast.
What kind of waves will I catch there? One to five-foot swells, a combination of beach and reef breaks in warm tropical waters.
Next trip: December 2 to 13. Various packages available.

Destination: Aseelah, Oman
Travel time from Dubai: Eight hours by road.
Length of trip: Long weekends of three nights, four days (longer for Eid trips).
Experience required: Suitable for beginners to advanced surfers.
Cost: Dhs1,500 to Dhs2,800. Family and grom packages available too.
Includes: Transport, surf lesson, surf guiding, accommodation and three meals per day.
What kind of waves will I catch there? Two to six-foot swells. Generally better in the morning when winds are offshore. Ideal for all levels of surfers, stand-up paddleboarders and kite boarders. Mostly reef breaks so you’ll need booties and the water temperature is cooler too.
Next trip: October 3 to October 7 (Eid).
