Abu Dhabi is the talk of Hollywood after the first trailer for Fast And The Furious 7 was released, showcasing some of the most stunning part of the emirate.
The new movie was shot in the UAE in May this year with stars including Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson. The short clip released this weekend shows the pair, as well as Michelle Rodriguez and rapper Ludicrous, emerging from Emirates Palace, dressed to impress following what appeared to be one helluva party at the iconic hotel.
A sun-drenched clip of the Corniche also catches the eye, while the first hint of the cast being in the region sees a fleet of supercars whizz past a caravan of camels along a desert road in Al Ain.
Paul Walker, whose untimely death in November 2013 deeply affected those he’d worked alongside since the release of the first movie in 2001, is a prominent figure in the trailer. It was reported that around 50 per cent of the movie had already been shot at the time of the car accident which killed the star. He was replaced by his brothers Cody and Caleb, while the release date was pushed from July 2014.
Last month, Diesel – who plays Dominic Toretto in the movie – paid homage to his late co-star.
“I must also say, that it was emotional and bittersweet,” he wrote on Facebook of the trailer. “We all went above and beyond to make Pablo proud, but man, I wish he could see what we have created and just how far we have come.”
The latest instalment of the franchise also stars wrestling icon Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, British actor Jason Statham and the legendary Kurt Russell.
Abu Dhabi is in the midst of something of a movie boom having recently played host to the cast and crew of the new Star Wars movie, as well as numerous other big screen productions. In June, images from the set of Star Wars were leaked to American showbiz website TMZ.
The collection of snaps, apparently taken on a mobile phone, showed what appeared to be giant hybrid creature with traits of rhino, pig and pitbull terrier standing some 10 feet tall. The animal – which brings back memories of the bantha from Return of the Jedi, and the tauntaun from Empire Strikes Back – is surround by people dressed in civilian clothing, while at the side a space craft is clearly visible.
In another, an extra from the set is shown draped in a red sheet not to dissimilar to the outfit worn by the dastardly Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace. In the background, the same spacecraft can be seen in all its glory, while on the floor lies what appears to be a rusting rocket. Other photos show smashed-up robots in the form of the legendary pod-racers, a smoldering wreckage, and a handful of other giant structures.
