The Ministry of Labour in the UAE has just announced that Wednesday September 23 to Friday September 25 will be an official paid holiday for all workers in the private sector across the country due to Eid Al Adha.

Work as usual will start again on Saturday September 26, but many people will still have a four day weekend as they have Saturdays off anyway.

For government and ministry employees, holidays will begin on Wednesday September 23 and work will begin as usual on Sunday September 27.

MOON SIGHTING 

The moon sighting committee met in Saudi Arabia Sunday to sight the Dhul Hijjah crescent, and because they couldn’t spot it they’ve confirmed that the first day of Eid Al Adha will fall on Thursday September 24.

The announcement was made by Chief Islamic Justice Ahmad Hlayel.

SCHOOLS

Some schools have announced the days students will have off, with Emirates International School closing on the Wednesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, Dubai American Academy, Star International and Al Twar have said they will be closed on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Eid al-Adha honours Abraham for sacrificing his promised son, Ishmael. It is separate from Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.
