Do you leave your car in the middle of the road during iftar? Well, this is why you should stop.

The roads around mosques can be particularly chaotic at the moment, and the police are cracking down on drivers who dump their cars quickly and not in proper parking spots.

Motorists have been warned that they face hefty fines if caught violating road rules around mosques during Islam’s holiest month.

Drivers who leave their cars in the middle of roads or block in other vehicles will be ticketed during the last 10 days of Ramadan, the Khaleej Times reported.

Arif Al Shareef, Director of the Central Operation Department at Sharjah Police, told the newspaper that illegal parking can cause congestion and hinder emergency services, and patrols are being increased around mosques as a result.

According to the Dubai police website, parking behind vehicles and blocking their movement can incur a fine of Dhs300, while parking in prohibited places or on pavements will cost you Dhs200.

Police also hope to tackle thefts, particularly of shoes left outside mosques during prayer time, with the intensified patrols.
