Just when you thought you couldn’t squeeze any more Scandinavian-style homewares into your apartment…

There will soon be another place to get your Swedish meatball fix, when Dubai welcomes its second IKEA store.

Located in Jebel Ali, close to the Energy station on the Metro line, the new furniture store will spread across a huge 30,000 square metres, with restaurants, coffee shops, and an in-store bakery (so you can enjoy the smell of freshly-baked bread while you shop).

Customers will also be able to make purchases using a mobile app, by scanning products in the store and arranging to have them delivered to their homes.

The store will be part of a massive new shopping mall being built over the next two years by UAE developer Al-Futtaim Group, Gulf Business reports.

Here is what the mall will look like (its name should be announced later this year):

The 78,500 square-metre mall, which is scheduled to open in 2019, will boast more than 100 stores, including flagship IKEA and ACE outlets (so it sounds like it’s going to be our go-to for all things practical).

There will also be a food court, cafe-style dining, entertainment, a hypermarket, and more than 2000 parking spots.

The mall is set to cater to the growing population in Jebel Ali, as well as residents from Marina and the TECOM free zones. It will also service the Wasl Gate community, when that development is complete.

This is very good news for those of us down this end of town who currently have to make the trek all the way out to Festival City to stock up on IKEA goodies…
