Demand for groceries tends to soar during Ramadan as families host their relatives and friends to break the fast.
The ministry has been forced to come up with initiatives to prevent supermarkets from inflating their prices during this time.
This year, Ramadan is likely to begin on May 17, with the first day of Eid Al Fitr – which marks the end of the holy month – expected to fall on June 15.
The official dates will be confirmed by the UAE’s moon-sighting committee closer to the time.
The UAE is also currently enjoying a month-long sale across supermarkets and hypermarkets, which runs until April 20.
