A massive 'tech-driven' mall is set to open at Dubai Creek Harbour
Dubai Square will be nearly twice the size of Dubai Mall…
Dubai Holdings and Emaar Properties have unveiled plans to build a massive new shopping mall at the heart of the upcoming Dubai Creek Harbour development.
Dubbed, Dubai Square, the new retail project will offer 8.07 million sq ft of gross retail space reports Gulf Business. That’s the equivalent to more than 100 football pitches, or nearly double the size of Dubai Mall. Wowza.
Split across three levels, it will feature the newly announced Chinatown project as well as an events arena, luxury retail, dining and leisure outlets. A cineplex, waterpark and a an art district are also planned.
The mall will have a distinct “tech-driven” focus offering customers the option to shop via desktop, mobile or at a retail store. This will include incorporating technology like mobile apps, quick checkout solutions, search and barcode scanning applications, radio-frequency identification technology, mobile payments and click-and-collect services. If that doesn’t sound like the future of retail, we’re not sure what does.
The ground floor will act as a defacto events arena with 3D projection mapping and will be fitted out to be able to host concerts, theatre shows and celebrity performances. The first floor will consist of a four-lane boulevard with retail outlets equipped with smart fitting rooms and interactive mirrors, restaurants serving fusion, vegan, Peruvian and French-Vietnamese cuisine, and a grand luxury avenue with live cooking stations, street vendors and even an organic market.
Finally, the second floor is where all the experiential attractions will reside, including an ‘Ice Adventure’, a cineplex, a waterpark, sports area and a supermarket with a metro link. To say that this thing is ambitious would be the understatement of the century.
Dubai Square will be linked directly to Dubai Creek Tower – set to become Dubai’s tallest tower – through an underground extension.
There’s no word yet on when the project will be completed, but considering its size we suspect it will probably be a while off. Still, we can’t wait to check it out when it finally opens, it sounds truly epic.
