This is so cool…

Fancy feeling like you’re starring in your own movie without leaving your cinema seat? Well now you can, as a 270-degree cinema screen, ScreenX, is now open at Dubai Mall.

The 170-seater cinema sees the panoramic screen wrap round the walls either sides of cinema seats, leaving movie-goers feeling like they’re inside the film.

You might not need to watch rom-coms in a 270-degree cinema, but we’d always pick this immersive cinema viewing for high-energy, action-films.

Currently, the cinema is showing recent release The Meg in 270-degree, with tickets for ScreenX priced at Dhs68 per ticket, and ScreenX plus (the more leg roomy seats towards the back), priced at Dhs78.75.

Not all parts of the movie are shown in the panoramic style, with around 50 minutes of the 113-minute running time shown in 270-degree.

A collaboration between Reel Cinemas and CJ 4DPLEX, a Korean-based tech company, the ScreenX is the first in the UAE.

At the time of the announcement back in June, Damien Latham, Emaar Entertainments CEO said, “At Reel Cinemas, we are constantly redefining our visitor’s experience by introducing world’s first technologies. ScreenX will be a leading addition to our technology showcase that assures a stunning 270-degree panoramic film viewing experience that will further cement our market leadership.”

There’s still more changing coming at the Dubai Mall cinema. Last month, Reel announced that they would be introducing a dine-in cinema with food by celebrity chef Guy Fieri later this year. It’s the second Guy Fieri dine-in cinema, with the first found at Jebel Ali Recreation Club.
