Dubai is getting a leafy new tourist attraction – suspended 60 metres in the sky.

Sky Garden Project is a stylish, botanical footbridge that is set to link many of the city’s landmarks along the shores of Dubai Creek. At 60 metres in height, it promises stunning panoramic views of old and new Dubai, and will extend an impressive 380 metres in length.

The expansive 3,422 square metres will be filled with a vibrant green garden that will have plenty of naturally shaded areas for outdoor activities, multi-level running and cycling tracks as well as some shops and restaurants.

Although we’re not sure when the Sky Garden project will be ready, we can’t wait to enjoy a wander down there one warm winter evening.

The project was approved by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai during a recent visit to the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).

Sky Garden is one of several new projects being developed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

During his visit, HH Sheikh Mohammed reviewed details for the Sunset promenade project – a new beachfront development connected to Jumeirah Beach Walk. The 80,000 square metre area will have a focus on family entertainment and include beach areas, floating islands, shops and ample parking space.

The Dubai ruler also reviewd the Sheikh Zayed Road promenade, which will utilise the viaduct between Dubai World Trade Centre and Financial Centre metro stations, to transform the 2.5km stretch into a modern green space with walking and cycling tracks. The walkways include three main points – Bazaar Street, Technology Park and Urban Park spanning an area of 54,000 square meters.
