A new series of star performers have been announced for the upcoming Formula One Grand Prix weekend in Abu Dhabi.
As part of Yasalam 2014, a smaller series of shows have been confirmed for the Corniche, featuring Rita Ora and Jason Derulo, as well as Juicy J, Tinashe, Filipino star Charice and more regional figures. The free concerts run in conjunction with the main showcase gigs at du Arena, which this year features DJ Armin van Buruen, Pharrell Williams and The Who.
‘Volkswagen Beats On The Beach’ runs from Thursday November 20 to Saturday November 22, the day of qualifying, and takes place at the West Plaza and Lagoon Beach for the first time, after previously occupying the East Plaza and Al Sahil Beach. Local talent will be represented across the weekend by popular UAE musicians including Ruwaida Mahrooqi, Juliana Down, The Boxtones, Nikotin, Kicksound and Jae Franklin.
Things are kicked off by Charice and rapper Juicy J, formerly a member of Three 6 Mafia, who can count Katy Perry, Wiz Khalifa and Nicki Minaj as collaborators.
Derulo steps up on Friday night, sure to bring his party vibe with massive chart bangers like ‘Wiggle‘ with Snoop Dogg and ‘Talk Dirty‘, as well as original breakthrough tracks ‘Ridin’ Solo‘ and ‘Whatcha Say‘.
And the curtain comes down on the three-day event with Rita Ora, who rocked the crowd at February’s RedFest DXB at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre alongside The Lumineers, John Newman, Naughty Boy and A-Yo! (also known as Mark Ronson and Zane Lowe) on Valentine’s Day. The British singer shot to fame in 2012 with her self-titled debut album – which subsequently went platinum – and went on to achieve more number one singles that year than any other artist. She was also nominated for three BRIT awards in 2013. She has since worked alongside the likes of Drake, Snoop and Coldplay.
As well as music, there will be live dance performances, an F1 FanZone and Urban Art Zone with live graffiti art and teachings on upcycling and refurbishing furniture.
As well as Beats On The Beach, nightclub O1Ne on Yas Island have also announced four nights of special entertainment featuring Grammy Award-winning T-Pain and DJ and producer Solomun, as well as Derulo and Van Buuren.
Running from Thursday to Sunday over race weekend, the club will have live performances from, in order, Derulo, AVB, T-Pain and Solomun.
T-Pain, real name Faheem Rasheed Najm, is a Florida rapper who has enjoyed almost a decade at the top of his game, collaborating with all the leading lights in hip hop, including Kanye West. His most successful hit to date was with fellow Sunshine Stater Flo-Rida, on the smash ‘Low’.
Solomun, meanwhile, is a well-rounded house DJ, fusing many genres into his sets, including soul, hip hop and disco.
