Delivery drones: Possibly the most Dubai thing ever
Forget Deliveroo – a DRONE could soon be dropping off your shawarma.
Have you ever found yourself thinking, “man, Dubai’s delivery services are convenient and all, but I wish there was less human interaction involved”?
Wish no more, antisocial desert-dweller. One Dubai-based technology group has joined forces with an American drone company to bring you (wait for it)… the delivery drone.
Well, the partnership between Eniverse Technologies and Skycart will actually be called “Space Autonomous Drones”, but we think “Delivery Drones” is more catchy.
It will deploy self-flying drones to deliver parcels weighing no more than 5kg all over Dubai. What’s more, it promises to do the job in 30 minutes or less.
Here’s a short video that shows how it will work:

The service, which is expected to launch in 2018 or 2019, will initially be offered in select neighbourhoods around Dubai, including Emirates Hills, The Meadows, The Springs, The Greens, Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim.
There’s just one small catch – Space Autonomous Drones has to get legal approval from the UAE government before it can start dropping shawarma from the sky.
However, the company says it is “confident that it will fulfill all the legal criteria and kick-start operations ahead of schedule”.
Good. Now hurry please, that shawarma we ordered half an hour ago will be getting cold…
