Sheikh Mohammed pays tribute to the Father of Dubai
The late Sheikh Rashid ruled Dubai from for 32 years from 1958 until his death in 1990.
Last night on October 6, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai shared a tribute to this father, HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum on the 30th anniversary of his death.
Across his social media channels, the Ruler of Dubai shared a black and white photo of Sheikh Rashid, known as the ‘Father of Dubai’ along with a tribute message.

The message read, ‘He was not very talkative but thought a lot. His day began before anyone else and his dreams went beyond his years.’
The tweet went on to say that Sheikh Rashid loved his wife, Latifa, and that he loved Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed ended the tweet reflecting on the city’s achievements thanks to Sheikh Rashid – ‘He was faithful to the Union. He went quietly after he filled the world with the sound of his achievements and this continues.’
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai reposted the tweet from his father and added a tribute of his own with a 30-second video.

Sheikh Hamdan called Sheikh Rashid ‘one of the greatest leaders’ who ‘created an inspiring vision for Dubai and its people.’ He went on to state, ‘His achievements and efforts live on in our hearts and therefore shall never be forgotten.’
More tributes poured in from royals and dignitaries who changed their profile photos to the late Sheikh Rashid.
HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Chairman of Dubai Sports Council also shared a video with a tribute message stating, ‘his insightful thought and his passion for work and achievement will remain a fundamental pillar in Dubai’s present and future march.’
The Dubai Media Office also paid tribute to the Father of Dubai in a number of tweets on their official account and included a number of videos showing pinnacle moments and projects launched by Sheikh Rashid including the dredging of the Dubai Creek, the construction of the Dubai International Airport back in 1960 and the building of the then tallest skyscraper in Dubai – Dubai World Trade Centre.
