Here’s what we know…
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai first announced the launch of Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls in January 2021, and it’s gradually been taking shape in the four years that have followed.

Last month, the project got one step closer, when Brand Dubai unveiled the crowning feature of the Sustainable Waterfalls project – a beautiful mural of the founding fathers of the UAE. The world’s largest mosaic artwork, spanning some 2,198.7 square metres, recreates a historical photograph of the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
Then earlier this month, Sheikh Mohammed reviewed the progress of some 65 projects now transforming Hatta into a year-round tourism destination. During his visit, he unveiled the Sustainable Waterfalls project, officially opening it for visitors.
So, what makes the waterfall sustainable?
Well, the project uses the slope of the upper dam (Al Ghabra dam) thus creating a natural waterfall. The water in the attraction is collected, recycled and pumped back to the top of the dam which makes it sustainable.
What else is there?
Visitors can climb to the top of the Hatta Dam to admire the views of the neatly landscaped area below. There’s also a waterway below the dam for picture opportunities, and a scenic boardwalk for visitors to enjoy leisurely strolls.
The space is also home to recreational spaces including a children’s play area, with cafes and shops still to open.
Like most waterfalls in the UAE, including the Hanging Gardens in Sharjah’s Kalba, the project aims to draw in the crowds making it a major tourist attraction in the UAE.
And there’s more to come from Hatta including…
The Dubai Summit
When Sheikh Mohammed announced the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls, he also announced The Dubai Summit – a 5.4 kilometre cable car attraction.
Standing at 1,300 metres above sea level, The Dubai Summit will be the highest natural summit in Dubai. The cable car route will pass over the Hatta Dam Lake and the Upper Dam Lake for the hydroelectric power station, as well as through mountains, ending at the summit of Um Al Nesoor mountain. We can’t wait to see it come to life.
