Culture guide: Plays, workshops and more to attend this weekend
For the culture vultures…
It’s finally Thursday and that means sorting out a schedule for the weekend revolving around indoor activities, all-you-can-eat breakfasts with mates and other great things to do in Dubai.
However, if you want to add a dash of culture to mix, here’s a round-up of things to do in Dubai this weekend that include art, workshops, performances and more.
Art exhibition
Project Art
When: Until June 18, 2021
Zabeel House by Jumeirah, The Greens has unveiled a new plan – Project Art which is designed to empower Dubai’s art community. On display at the popular hotel until June 18 is the work of art by Yousra Wahba. Expect to see plenty of mesmerising fluid acrylic work and resin art.

Theatre
Woman and Scarecrow
When: June 16 to 19, 2021
The show is about an unnamed woman as she lies on her deathbed. As the time ticks away, she reflects on the highs and lows of her life, her children and her wayward husband. Holding off death is an ambiguous character, called Scarecrow, who is accompanying her on this journey offering a bit of comfort and recrimination in equal measure. Read more here.

Music festival
Fête de la Musique
When: June 19, 2021
Alliance Française Dubai is celebrating Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year) with a music festival on June 19. The festival will be held at Alliance Française Dubai in Oud Metha and music lovers can expect a wide range of tunes spanning from classical to jazz and even Arabic.
The event is free and open to all ages but you need to reserve your spots here.

Guided tours and workshops
Teens Zine Workshop
When: June 19, 2021
Jameel Arts Centre is hosting a series of free events for the little ones and teens this weekend. The workshop includes a guided tour of the galleries and a discovery journey of artworks followed by creative hands-on activities, unique to each visit and led by Jameel Arts Centre’s learning coordinator Madeline Abu Nabah. Workshops are suitable for teens above the age of 14 and no prior art skill is required. Supplies will be provided.

At Casa De Arte, there is a resin coaster workshop taking place this Saturday where you can create your own magical coasters using the special resin art technique. The workshop is suitable for beginners, but there are limited spots available so make sure you book before you head on over. The two-hour workshop begins at 2pm and will cost you Dhs220. All materials will be provided. You will make four coasters which you can take home with you when it has set.
